In September of this year, and on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the release of the album El Gusanito en Persona, which contains 10 songs composed and written by my father, Jorge de la Vega, I decided to reissue said album remastered.
For this reason, together with Marikena Monti, a singer with whom my father shared the stage in the 1960s, we gave a live performance at the MNBA (National Museum of Fine Arts). At the same time, an exhibition honoring Jorge de la Vega's musical career was being inaugurated.
In that presentation, we played songs from the album El Gusanito en Persona and other unreleased songs from what was going to be his second album, which he never got to make due to his premature death in 1971.
2019 · 2020
After a few more performances with Marikena during 2019, we decided to go into a recording studio to record the songs from this show we had been performing. The band recorded live in the studio, with Leandro Chiappe on piano, Federico Granero on bass, El Zurdo Alaguibe on drums, and myself on guitar. During 2020/21, we completed the final production with great guests such as Daniel Melingo, Gringui Herrera, Sebastian Schachtel, Javier Calamaro, Franco Luciani, and Alejandro Teran.
While the tribute exhibition was being planned and we were giving these presentations, I managed to obtain, after a search of years, and through Cecilia Castro and UNQUI (Fernando von Reichenbach Archive, Laura Manzo Library), some tapes of my father's. These had been recorded in the 70s at the Di Tella Institute; there were the "sketches" or "demos," in guitar and voice format, of some songs from what was going to be his second LP, which never materialized.
2021
We commemorate the 50th anniversary of Jorge de la Vega's death, which is why we released the song "Inadaptación" as a tribute on digital platforms and finished the final production of the album.
2022
"Beyond Time" is published in its final version.
Of all the tracks on the album, only five were originally released by my father on the 1968 album, El Gusanito en Persona. These are: El Gusanito, El Gusanito en persona, Diamantes en Almíbar, Proximidad, and La Hora de los Magos. The remaining tracks are all previously unreleased songs by Jorge de la Vega.
Beyond Time, Jorge de la Vega and Marikena Monti; it is a journey in which the interpretive power of Marikena Monti and the lyrical and musical acuity of Jorge de la Vega come together again, as in the 60s.
